READING

Read the paragraph from Eddy’s diary and mark the sentences true (+) or false (-).

I am so stressed out this year! I go to a different school now and it is much bigger than my old one. There is a large assembly hall on the ground floor, next to the library. On the other side there is a gym and two changing rooms. Oh, the canteen and the school kitchen are also on the ground floor, behind the gym. On the first floor, there is an IT room on the right and a science lab on the left. The headmaster’s office is on the second floor, opposite the staff room. There are lockers and toilets on each floor. In general, there are more than 60 classrooms here! Of course, there is a map next to the entrance on the first floor, but it is still quite easy to get lost. I really miss my friends from my old school and we chat online every evening. My parents say it is a great chance for me to make some new friends. It is a good idea, but I am a bit shy, so it is not easy for me. However, I am not the only new student at this school. There is also Mack – he lives not far from my house and we are going to hang out after the lessons tomorrow.

WRITING

You have received this email from your English friend Amelia.

Hello!
How was your first day at school? I got into trouble on the very first day. Dad couldn’t start the car, and I was half an hour late. My class teacher got really angry at me. I think she should be angry with my dad, though! What about your class teacher: is he/she too strict? Are you ever late? This is a picture of me in my school uniform. I really hate it. Do you have to wear a uniform? What’s it like? Please write soon and tell me about your school rules. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
Love,
Amelia

READING

Read the paragraph from Emma’s diary and mark the sentences True (+) or False (-).

I am so excited about this school year! I go to a new school, and it is not as big as my old one. There are only two floors and 20 classrooms here, so I do not need to worry about getting lost! The entrance is between the lockers. There is a rather big assembly hall on the ground floor, next to the headmaster’s office. The staff room and the library are on the opposite side. The canteen is next to the library. Oh, there is also a gym at the end of the corridor and the changing rooms are behind it. All of the classrooms and the science lab are on the first floor. The toilets are on both floors. Sure, I miss my friends from my old school and we chat online every evening. However, I have already made a lot of new friends here... Vicky, Sam and Bella – they are big dynamos, just like me! We all joined the basketball team and the tennis club together on the very first day! There is also Rob – he is rather quiet and he likes reading. He knows a lot, that's why it is fun to hang out with him.

WRITING

You have received this email from your friend, Sam. Write her back in about 100 words.

Hi!
How was your first day at school? It was so hard for me to wake up early again.
I also forgot my lunch box, so I had to buy a meal at the canteen. Was there any
trouble on your first day? Then I checked the newsboard and there were some new rules:
no phones in class AND no running in the hall. But what if I need to call
someone or hurry up to the classroom? Are there any new rules at your school?
Please write me back and tell me about your first day. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours,
Sam
